It’s been a while since I posted for my mom so I thought it was due. My mom is still hanging in there and fighting like a true champ. I cannot believe how positive and optomistic my mom is. After reading some of the other blogs on here SO MANY of you are truly inspiring! It really amazes me how strong you all are and positive. What a true inspiration you all are. My mom is still on a chemo break. She’s enjoyed this for two months now. She’s got to enjoy alot that she’s missed out on when she was so sick with chemo. Two weeks ago we went to Newport Beach California and spent 5 days in our friend’s condo right on the beach. She enjoyed being away from the doctor’s visits and being able to enjoy a change of scenery. She’s also been able to enjoy movies, and going out to dinner, I even took her to see Dancing with the stars with my grandma (ovarian cancer survivor) this past weekend. Stuff we normally take for granted but she was feeling like such a hermit crab when she was sick on chemo. Hope everyone is hanging in there and getting stronger everday. Thanks for your blogs they are encouraging to us all. Hugs, Sarah November 29, 2008
Just an update. My mom has been off of chemo (Folfox/Avastin) for about a month. She has been enjoying it very much and is feeling pretty good. She started a natural chemotherapy called chelidonine it comes from the Ukraine. Mom will be off traditional chemo at least until the first of the year. When my mom first arrived in Scottsdale her eyes were very puffy and she had reddness all over her face due to the chemo. It was burning her. The folfox chemo wasn’t working very well so hopefully if she tries a different chemo she will have better success. We also may find a doctor that does the sir spheres. :) Sarah Give your mom a great big hug for me & let her know her friends at Blog for a Cure are thinking about her. Always look forward to your updates. I hope your Thanksgiving Day was wonderful. Much love & prayers, Monica I hope all goes well with your Mom Hug coming your way. sherri Thanks so much Monica & Sherri. Hope you guys are doing well. Hugs to you both. November 6, 2008
Well my mom made it to sunny Arizona. Just in time for the beautiful winter season weather. My parents drove from Northern California so they did it in two days, the trip really wore out my mom and also may have caused a hernia in her stoma. Now it’s swollen and caused her some discomfort. Seeing her grandchildren really lifted her spirits though! She had her consultation with Envita and we were all very pleased. She started treatment the next day (Wed.) My mom also met with a new Oncologist today and was very pleased with her visit with him. He was very nice and listened to her and actually showed some compassion unlike her previous care thus far. My mom is going to be taken a break from Chemo for the first time since she started 4 months ago. She will be staying off traditional chemo at least until the first of the year and she will focus on Natural therapies and boosting up her immune system with Envita. We are also in the process of setting her up with a surgeon to see if she may be a candidate for surgery to at least remove the primary tumor. Will write more when we know more. But for now she’s enjoying her break from Chemo and trying to enjoy life and soak up some sunshine. Sarah Great to hear your mom is enjoying the nice sunny weather in Arizona! It sounds very encouraging that she is getting compasionate care and new treatment at this place. What a difference care professionals’ attitudes make on us and our families. Keep us posted. Hugs, I too am in the Sacto area. I am curious where your mom was treated prior to UCD. I am being treated at Sutter Cancer Center. My doc is wonderful, but the infusion center is slipping, far. I have been going there for 2 years and watched it go from impressive to scary. I am glad your mom is in AZ. How nice to be warm during the winter. Keep us posted and tell her she is in many people’s prayers. Gaile My mom was being seen at Mercy San Juan. We definetely wern’t impressed and didn’t think she was getting the best care. We wanted to find experts in her field. She is now at the Mayo clinic which is leaps and bounds better than previous. As well as at the Envita Medical Centers which as been wonderful. I wish you the best. And hope you are getting the best care. Sarah |

Glad to hear that she’s feeling good and getting out. Excellent that the tumors are shrinking! I hope its not too bad when she starts chemo again.
